During my residency as the graphic designer at Tenderfoot Learning Lab I focused my time working on T-shirt designs, invites/graphics, as well as the newly published map! It was a pleasure trying to capture the essence of Tenderfoot in my designs. Designs were inspired by the simplicity of sustainable life here at Tenderfoot as well the whimsical elements that result from the landmarks on the property.

As the resident engineer at Tenderfoot, I was able to help tend to many hands-on projects. I helped with construction that put finishing touches on the outdoor classroom. Most notably, I helped design a rainwater catchment system for the main house at Tenderfoot, which will be used for watering the gardens and providing water for the outdoor shower. With these additions, I hope that Tenderfoot can continue its journey for sustainability, self-sufficiency, and public education.

During my time at Tenderfoot, I worked on creating a marketing plan for future events, working on press releases, and writing articles describing various aspects of the lab. This allowed me to venture out into the woods and discover new parts of Athens, Ohio.

During my in-residency internship at Tenderfoot Learning Lab, I served as the Web Designer in Residence. My primary responsibilities included enhancing and modernizing the website. Utilizing WordPress, along with coding in CSS and HTML, I made various improvements to make the website easier to use and more visually appealing. My efforts played a big part in keeping the Tenderfoot’s online presence up-to-date and user-friendly.

As the Biologist in Residence, I had the privilege of working on two key projects. The first involved pond conservation, where I manually removed the overgrown floating-leaved pondweed and introduced Grass Carp to eat the pondweed. I also was able to help with introducing Hybrid Sunfish and Fathead Minnows to enhance biodiversity. Additionally, I identified and researched the surrounding flora to create a Plant Identification Guide for future Tenderfooters!

At Tenderfoot, I created a mural inspired by the lab’s wonders, including sycamore trees, mayapples, cardinals, an eastern box turtle, and the kitchen. Cooking in the test kitchen taught me practical skills that highlighted food’s central role in sustainability and community nourishment. This experience inspired me to paint a mural depicting these elements, reflecting my immersion in the Tenderfoot community.
